About Khandelwal Fertilizers Ltd. – Agriculture & Farming in Tonk
Our shop is at number 89, right near the Ghantaghar. It’s a very busy part of town with people and rickshaws everywhere. You can hear the big clock tower chime every hour, which helps us keep track of time when things get hectic. We sell fertilizers, so there is always that specific earthy, salty smell in the air around our entrance. We have stacks of heavy bags piled high against the walls. Moving them around is hard work and keeps us in decent shape. The building is old, with high ceilings and some cracks in the plaster that we never got around to fixing. Farmers come in from the surrounding villages, often early in the morning before the heat gets too bad. We spend a lot of time talking to them about the weather and how the crops are doing this year. It’s a simple business. We don't use computers much, mostly just writing things down in big ledgers with a pen. The front of the shop is usually covered in a fine white dust from the bags. Sometimes we sit out front on wooden stools when it’s quiet. It’s a local spot where everyone knows everyone else. We’ve been near the clock tower for years and don't plan on going anywhere. It’s just a regular place where we sell what people need for their fields and talk about the day’s news.
