Mr. & Mrs. Bordorua Food Products

Our building is right there in Simalu Guri, very close to the Nam Ghar. You can usually smell what we’re making before you even see the sign. It’s just the two of us and a couple of helpers from the village. We started this because we had the space and we knew how to cook. It’s mostly local stuff, the kind of things people around here like to eat with their tea. The kitchen gets really hot in the afternoons, especially when all the stoves are going at once. We don’t use fancy machines for everything. A lot of it is still done by hand because that’s just how we’ve always done it. Sometimes the packaging doesn't look perfect, but the food inside is good. We spend a lot of time sourcing the ingredients from the nearby markets. We don't really do much advertising. People just know where we are. Simalu Guri is a small place, so word travels fast. We’ve got a small area out front where people can stop and buy a few bags of snacks. It’s not a supermarket, just our workspace. We keep the books in a drawer near the window. It’s a quiet life, mostly focused on the rhythm of the kitchen and the seasons. We just want to keep things going as they are. My husband handles the heavy pots, and I do the seasoning. It's a simple partnership that works for us and our customers.
