Raja Rice Mill

The address used to be Old No: 24, but now it is New No : 304 on Francis Saviour Main Road. This is where Raja Rice Mill is located in Kallipatti. The road outside is always busy with people walking and bikes going past. We sit right on the main road, so we see everything that happens in the neighborhood. The mill is an old building, but it does the job. We have stacks of rice that reach almost to the roof. It is a bit dark inside because we don’t have many windows. We use a lot of lights to see what we are doing with the scales. Kallipatti is a small town, so we know most of the people who stop by. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just open the doors in the morning and wait for the work to start. The machine is a bit old and needs a lot of oiling. You can hear it clanking away from two blocks over. Sometimes we have to fix a belt that snaps. It’s just part of the daily routine. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just handle the rice and keep the place running. It’s been this way for a long time now.
