Nagammal Stores

If you are driving down Natham Main Road in the Reserve Lines area, you might have seen Nagammal Stores. We are right across from the Raj Bhavan Hotel, which is a big landmark around here. It is a humble spot, just number 17 A on the street. We deal with everyday items that people in Madurai need for their homes. The shelves are a bit crowded because we try to fit everything in. You’ll find soap, pulses, and small snacks. My family has been running this place and we don’t really change much. The wooden counter has been there since the start. It gets a bit dusty with the road being so busy, but we wipe it down every morning. Sometimes the regulars come in just to chat for a minute while they pick up their tea leaves or sugar. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here. If the power goes out, we use the hand fans. It’s just how it is. We manage the stock ourselves and talk to the distributors who pull up in their small trucks. The rain can sometimes leak a bit near the front door if it’s heavy, so we keep an eye on that. Living and working in the same neighborhood makes things easier. We close up when the street lights come on and head home.
