Our little office is right there in the KK Complex on Puthu Natham Main Road. If you know the Krishnapuram Colony area in Madurai, you’ve probably seen our cars driving around with the 'L' stickers on them. It’s pretty hot most days, so we spend a lot of time sitting in the shade of the building between lessons. The office isn't much, just a few chairs and a table where we handle the paperwork for licenses and learner permits. Madurai traffic can be a real headache, especially near Bank Colony, so teaching people how to drive here takes a lot of patience. I’ve spent more hours than I can count sitting in the passenger seat, reaching for the extra brake pedal when someone gets a bit too nervous near a bus. We have people coming from all over the neighborhood, some young kids and some older folks who finally decided they need to learn. The road outside stays busy from morning till night, which is actually good because if you can drive here, you can drive anywhere. Sometimes the printer acts up when we’re trying to copy a learner’s permit, or the tea delivery is late, but we manage. It’s just a normal local business where we try to get through the day without any new dents in the bumpers. You get used to the noise and the dust after a while, and it just becomes part of the daily routine for us.
