You can find the Arunachala Pepper Company at Plot No.42 in Chatrapatti. We are quite close to the Iyer Bungalow, which is how most people find us. If you come by, you’ll definitely smell the pepper before you see the building. It’s a strong, sharp scent that sticks to your clothes. We’ve been in this spot for a long time. It’s not a fancy office. It’s mostly a warehouse where we sort and pack black pepper. The floors are concrete and there are stacks of jute bags everywhere. We aren't corporate people. We are just workers who know a lot about spices. We spend our days checking the quality and making sure the pepper is dry enough. It’s a lot of manual labor, lifting and moving bags. We don't have a marketing department. Most of our customers have been buying from us for years. They know us and we know them. We don't use big words to describe what we do. We just sell pepper. Sometimes the dust makes us sneeze, but we just laugh it off. We have a small team, and we all do a bit of everything. There’s no bossing around here, just getting the work done. We close the gates early on Saturdays to go to the market. It’s a good, honest way to make a living. We like the quiet life here in Chatrapatti and the people we see.
