Our business is located at Door No 56/10/0A on Manakulavingaiyer Street, which is just off Chengam Road. It’s a bit of a long address to write out, but we’re easy enough to find if you look for 4th Street. We deal with marachekku ennai at Annam Marachekku Ennai Private Limited, using those traditional wooden presses. It can be a noisy and messy job, but it’s what we’ve been doing for years. We spend most of our time cleaning seeds and keeping an eye on the machines. The whole place usually smells like groundnuts and sesame, which we’ve grown to like. We aren't a big factory or anything like that. It’s just a few of us working in this small space. Sometimes the raw materials are late or the weather makes it hard to dry things properly, so we just have to wait. We’ve been here for a while, and the neighbors are used to the sounds of the presses running. We don't have any fancy labels or a sales team. Most of our customers are just local people who walk over with their own containers to fill up. We keep our records in a simple ledger and don't use computers much. It’s hard work and the days get very long, especially when it’s hot outside. But there’s a good feeling when you see the oil finally come out. We just keep doing what we do, day in and day out, here on the street.
