Subramani Peti Shop

Subramani Peti Shop is just a small corner spot at 17/6 in Manali New Town. It’s not a big supermarket or anything like that. Just a simple peti shop where you can get your daily bits and pieces. We have cigarettes, matchboxes, and some candies for the kids. Maybe some loose biscuits too. I’ve been sitting in this spot for a long time. The space is tight, so I have everything within arm’s reach. It’s mostly the local workers and residents who stop by. We talk about the weather or the local news while I count out the change. Chennai heat can be tough, so I have a small stool and a bottle of water kept behind the wooden slats. The shop is made of wood and metal sheets. It’s not fancy at all. I don't have any helpers, so if I need to step away, I just pull the shutter for a few minutes. Everything is written down in a small notebook so I don't forget who owes what. Some days are slow, especially in the afternoons when it’s too hot for anyone to be out. I usually listen to the radio to pass the time. It’s a basic way to earn a living but it serves the people around here. You can’t miss it if you are walking through this part of Manali New Town.
