Nehemiah Builders

Our office is called No 8 Grace Cottage, which makes it sound a bit more peaceful than it really is. We are located in the Ambattur area of Chennai, right near the Corporation Bank in Krishnapuram. Nehemiah Builders is a small operation. We don’t have a huge office building or a hundred staff members. Most of what we do is local work, helping people get their homes built or renovated around this part of town. It is honest work that involves a lot of masonry and structural tasks. We spend most of our time out at the building sites, standing in the sun and making sure the labor is doing things correctly. When we are back at the cottage, it’s usually to handle the bills or to meet with a homeowner about their plans. It is not always easy to keep things on a strict schedule, especially when the monsoon rains start and everything has to stop for a few days. But we keep at it. Being near the bank and the bus stand makes it easy for people to drop by and see us. We don't have a lot of polished sales pitches. We just talk about how many bags of cement we need and how long the foundation will take to dry. It is a practical business and we take it one day at a time, focusing on one wall or one floor at a time.
