Sri Sathy Compaacting

Our place is over at Lakshminagar, specifically at 22 Chettiar Thottam. It’s one of those spots that’s a bit tucked away, which is fine by us. Sri Sathy Compaacting isn't a huge operation with hundreds of people. It’s just a handful of us working with the machines. Compacting isn't the cleanest job in the world, so we all end up with a bit of dirt on our clothes by the end of the shift. The workshop floor is where everything happens. You hear the thud of the equipment all day long. It becomes a kind of rhythm after a while. We don't have fancy furniture or air conditioning in the main area. We just keep the doors open to let some air in. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty, but that’s just the nature of the work we do here. We’ve known the neighbors for a long time, and everyone kind of looks out for each other in this part of town. It’s a lot of hands-on labor. You have to be careful with the machinery, so we spend a lot of time just watching the gauges and making sure things are running smooth. We don't really do much in terms of decoration. There might be an old calendar on the wall from three years ago that nobody bothered to take down. It’s just a practical workspace for practical people who don't mind getting their hands a bit greasy to get the job finished.
