Balaganapathi Statues

You can find us right on the Avinashi Main Road, specifically at 15D49 in Thirumuruganpoondi. We are directly across from Lakshmi Ceramics, so that is usually how people find us if they get lost. Making statues at Balaganapathi Statues is heavy work. There is always stone dust in the air and the sound of hammers or grinders going. It’s not the kind of place where you can wear nice clothes because they’ll be ruined by the end of the shift. We have been at this location for a good while now. The main road is always busy with trucks and cars rushing past towards Avinashi, but inside the yard, we just focus on the stone. Some of the statues take weeks to finish, and you have to be careful not to make a mistake near the end. We just do what we were taught by the ones who came before us. It is a lot of sweat and hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on the yard. We have a small shed for shade, but most of the carving happens out in the open. People often stop their cars just to look at what we are working on. We don't mind that, as long as they don't get in the way of the tools. It’s a tough job but it pays the bills and keeps us busy. We just keep our heads down and finish the stone.
