Armstrong Knitting Mills

Our spot is at 61-C on 2nd Street in Saminathapuram. It’s a quiet enough area compared to the main roads, which we like. Armstrong Knitting Mills has been sitting here for a good while. Inside, the floors are concrete and the ceiling fans are always spinning to keep the air moving. We have a few rows of machines that keep us busy from early morning until the evening. There’s always a bit of lint floating in the air, which is just part of the job. We don't have a big HR department or a cafeteria. We just bring our own tiffin boxes and sit near the window where there’s a bit of a breeze. Sometimes the machines get temperamental and we have to spend an hour poking around with a wrench. It’s practical work. We spend a lot of time checking the tension of the yarn and making sure nothing is snagged. The neighbors often walk by and wave through the open gate. We’ve got a small radio that plays the local station, mostly just for some background noise while we work. It’s not a high-tech facility with robots; it’s just us and the equipment we’ve had for years. We do what we do and we don’t make a big fuss about it. Every day is pretty much the same, and we’re fine with that.
