You can find us over in Vivekananda Nagar, right behind the Chikkanna College hostel. It’s a bit of a landmark for us because everyone knows where the college is. Our place is No. 7. It’s a quiet enough area until the students are moving about in the mornings and evenings. We do textile work here, mostly focusing on the production side of things. The space is filled with the sound of machinery and the smell of raw cotton. It’s not a corporate setup at all. We have grease on our hands and thread on our shirts most of the day. We’ve been here for a while and seen the area change around us. The building is solid, though we could probably use a bit more light in the back corner where the storage is. We handle the daily orders as they come in. There is no big hierarchy here; we all just pitch in where it’s needed. If a machine breaks, we fix it ourselves. If a shipment is late, we wait. It’s just the way it goes in this line of work. We aren't trying to be the biggest in the world, just trying to do a decent job for the people who buy our cloth. The hostel students sometimes walk past and look in, but we’re usually too busy with the bobbins and the fabric to notice much. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday.
