Nycil Knitwear N Tex Apparel Pvt. Ltd. is located over at No. 67-1 Mandothari Garden, right on the Allnkaptuduruthuakauli Main Road. That’s a very long name for a road, and honestly, we just tell people to look for the big green gate. We’ve got a decent-sized space here where we handle a lot of apparel work. It’s a mix of knitting and sewing different garments. The sun hits the front windows pretty hard in the afternoon, so we have to keep the blinds down most of the time to stay cool. The team here is a mix of younger kids learning the ropes and older folks who have been doing this kind of work since they were teenagers. We don't have a big corporate manual or any strict rules. We just show each other how to fix the machines when they jam up. The main road is always busy with people going to work or heading home for the evening. We see a lot of the same faces passing by our gate every day. The garden area nearby used to be a lot nicer years ago, but we mostly just focus on what’s happening inside our own walls. There’s always a stack of paper patterns on the main table and colorful scraps of cloth on the floor. We sweep up every evening before we lock the doors. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s consistent and we know what we’re doing. We don’t try to impress anyone. We just do the work.
