Vms Fabrics is located at No. 60 Tpa Colony, and if you go around the backside of the Kasiviswanatha Kovil, you’ll find us easily. Being so close to the temple means we hear the chants and the bells throughout the day, which is quite nice. Our space is filled from floor to ceiling with different kinds of cloth. It can be a bit overwhelming if you aren’t used to it. We have these long wooden tables where we roll out the fabric to measure it. Over time, the wood has become very smooth from all the cloth sliding across it. We don't have a lot of space for walking around, so you have to be careful not to trip over a stray roll. My sister handles the accounts and I do most of the cutting. We’ve been here for several years now. The neighborhood knows us well. We don’t really do any advertising. People just see the door open and wander in. Sometimes they just want to touch the fabrics and see what’s new. We don’t mind a bit of chatting. It makes the day go faster. The air in here is always a bit heavy with lint, but we’re used to it. It’s a simple business. We buy fabric, we sell it, and we try to make sure we have enough variety for everyone who stops by. It's just a regular life in the colony.
