Baumwolle Clothing Company

Our workshop is tucked away in the Sasikala Rice Mill Compound, right at No. 496. It is on Palladam Road in Thennampalayam. Being in an old rice mill compound gives it a certain feel, I suppose. It is not your typical modern factory. Baumwolle Clothing Company is basically just a bunch of us working with cotton all day long. The name sounds a bit different, but we are just locals. The machines make a constant drone that you eventually stop hearing after a few hours. We get a lot of lint on our clothes. It is hot in this part of the country, and the high ceilings of the old compound help a little, but not much when the sun is really beating down. We handle a lot of fabric pieces, stitching and checking them over. There is no big sign or anything. You just find us by the gate. We have a routine that hasn't changed much over the years. We arrive early, drink some tea, and get to the sewing. Sometimes the thread snaps or a machine acts up, and we spend time fixing it. It is just honest work. We do not pretend to be some giant corporation. We are just a group of people making clothes in a repurposed space, trying to keep up with the day's tasks before the sun goes down. It is a long day, but the work is steady and we know what we are doing.
