We are based out of Shed No. 78. It’s exactly what it sounds like—a big industrial shed where we do all our work for Meenakshi Hosieries. It’s not the prettiest building, just a metal structure with a high ceiling, but it gives us the room we need for the machines. In the summer, it gets pretty hot in here despite the fans, and in the rain, you can really hear the water hitting the roof. It’s a loud place to work, with the constant hum of the knitting and sewing going on. We have a small crew and most of us have been here since the beginning. We spend our days checking the thread, fixing the needles, and making sure the stacks of hosiery are moving along. There isn't a lot of room for sitting around. We have a small corner with a table and a kettle for our tea breaks, which is usually the only time it gets quiet. The area around the shed is mostly other workshops and warehouses, so there’s always trucks coming and going. It’s a bit gritty and industrial, but that’s the nature of this kind of work. We don't have a showroom or anything like that. We just focus on the production side of things right here in the shed. It’s honest work and it keeps us all busy.
