Sridevi Engineering

Our shop, Sridevi Engineering, is over at 5/33 Mahalakshmi Nagar in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu. Pollachi is a bit more relaxed than the bigger cities, but we still keep pretty busy. We are surrounded by a lot of greenery and coconut groves, but inside the shop, it’s all iron and steel. We do a lot of general engineering work, mostly helping out the local farmers with their equipment or fixing parts for the trucks that move through the area. It’s a small operation with just a few of us working the machines. The tools we use are sturdy and have been around for a long time. There is a certain way you have to listen to the motors to know if they are running right, and we’ve all got that figured out by now. We don't have any big corporate mission or a fancy office for meetings. Usually, if someone wants to talk business, we just stand near the workbench and hash it out over the noise of the fans. The floor is concrete and usually has a few stains from various lubricants and coolants we use on the metal. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except for the sound of the grinding wheels. We just take the jobs as they come in, do the work as well as we can, and go home to our families in the evening. There isn't much more to it than that. It’s just how things have always been done here in Mahalakshmi Nagar.
