Down in Karuvampalayam on Erukkadu Second Street, you’ll find our little unit, Sri Garments. It’s on a narrow lane, so it’s pretty quiet compared to the main roads. Our workspace isn't anything special to look at. It’s just a room filled with sewing machines, cutting tables, and stacks of fabric. There’s usually some scrap cloth on the floor and the sound of steam irons going off. We don’t have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy things about what we do. It’s just a small group of us working every day. We start early while it’s still cool outside. The people living around here have known us for a long time. Sometimes delivery drivers have trouble finding the street because it’s tucked away, so we have to go out and lead them in. It’s a bit of a scramble sometimes, but we make it work. We don't have a showroom with big glass windows or mannequins. It’s just a production space where we get the clothes made. We drink a lot of coffee to stay sharp and just keep the machines moving. Every day is pretty much the same routine. We know our jobs and we just get on with them. It’s not a big company, just a local business trying to stay busy in the garment district.
