Jebas Exports

If you come down to Third Street in Samundipuram, you will find us easily. Tiruppur is full of garment places, and Jebas Exports is just one of the many units here. Our building is usually humming with the sound of the machines. It’s a bit of a loud neighborhood, but you get used to it. Inside, it’s mostly rolls of cloth and people sitting at tables. We do a lot of work for overseas, so there are always these big cardboard boxes waiting by the door. The street is a bit narrow, so when the lorries come to pick up the load, everything else has to stop. It causes a bit of a mess sometimes. I’ve been in this trade for a long time, starting from when I was just a boy. Now I have this place. It’s not very fancy. The paint on the walls is peeling in some corners and the floor is stained with oil from the machines. But it’s where we work every day. We don’t really do any advertising. Most people who work with us have known us for years. We just try to get the stitching right and the colors to match. Sometimes we have power cuts and everything goes silent, which is a bit strange. We just wait it out and start again. It’s a tough business with tight deadlines, but we like being part of the community here in Samundipuram. It’s just how life is in a textile town.
