Sakthivel Garments

Venkatesapuram 4th Street is where you can find us. Sakthivel Garments has been on P. N. Road for a long time. It’s a bit of a tight space at No. 27/ 78. We have sewing machines lined up along the walls. The traffic outside on the main road is always loud. You can hear the horns and the buses all day long. We make all sorts of clothes here. Sometimes it's shirts, sometimes it's pants or kids' clothes. It depends on what people are asking for that month. We have a small crew. Most of them have been with us since we first opened the doors. We drink tea together twice a day and talk about the work or our families. The fabric comes in big, heavy rolls and we have to move them by hand. It’s hard work on the back. We don’t use any fancy computers for the cutting. We use big metal scissors and steady hands. The lighting isn't the best in the back, but we make it work. Every corner is filled with thread or spare cloth. It’s a bit messy but we know where everything is kept. P. N. Road is always moving and changing. We fit right in. We don't spend any money on advertising or big posters. People just find us by walking past. Or they know a neighbor who knows us. That’s how it works here. We just want to finish the day's work and go home to rest. Tomorrow we do it all over again.
