S. M. Knit Garments

If you know Kongu Main Road, you know it’s always moving. We are tucked away at No. 9/10 in the S. N. V. Layout, specifically on 4th Street. It’s a knitwear spot, like so many others in this part of town. We have a few machines running and there's usually the sound of thread clicking all day long. The space isn’t huge but it fits what we need to do. Some of the guys have been working here for years and they know the rhythm of the place. We start early because the afternoons get pretty hot. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back. We make different kinds of knit items depending on what orders come in that week. It’s not a glamorous job, just honest work with fabric and needles. We have piles of cut pieces waiting to be stitched and finished garments ready to go out. The floor is usually covered in little bits of thread and fabric scraps by the end of the shift. We clean it up and start again the next morning. It’s just how the garment life goes here on 4th Street. We know our neighbors and we mostly keep to ourselves, focusing on getting the boxes packed and out the door on time.
