S. M. P. Garments

Our workshop is over on Maruthachalapuram Main Road, specifically on the first floor of No. 34-C. It’s right in the heart of Kumaranthapuram. You have to walk up the stairs to find us. It’s a busy area and there is always a lot of noise coming from the street below. Inside, we have our sewing machines set up in rows. It’s where we spend most of our daylight hours. The light coming through the windows is good for seeing the stitches clearly. We handle various types of garment work, mostly just following the patterns we are given. It’s a lot of repetitive movement, but we’re used to it. The tea man comes by twice a day and that’s when everyone takes a break to talk for a few minutes. We don’t have a fancy lobby or anything like that. There are just tables for cutting and racks for hanging things up. Sometimes the fabric deliveries come late and we have to stay a bit longer to catch up. That’s just part of being in this business. We’ve been at this location for some time now and most people in the neighborhood know where we are. We just focus on the work in front of us and try to get everything finished before the weekend starts. It’s a plain, hardworking place.
