Rkm Apparels

Over on Kangayam Road, right across from the Gayathri Hotel, that’s where you’ll find Rkm Apparels. It’s a busy part of town, especially with all the traffic coming through. We spend most of our time at the machines or checking the fabric rolls that come in. There’s always a hum of activity in the background. It’s not a quiet job, that’s for sure. We have a few people working here, mostly local folks from around the area. We try to keep things moving so we don’t get a backlog of orders. The room can get pretty stuffy when the irons are on, so we usually keep the windows wide open to get a bit of a breeze from the road. Sometimes the dust from the street comes in too, but you can’t have one without the other. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a receptionist. If you walk in, you’ll probably just see someone busy with a sewing machine or packing boxes. We take our tea breaks together under the shade when it’s particularly hot. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living. We don’t make a big fuss about things. We just focus on getting the garments finished and out the door on time. It is a lot of hard work but we are used to it by now. Most of us have been in this line of work for a long time. We’ve seen the road change over the years, but the work stays the same. The machines need oiling every day and there is always someone coming in.
