Our place is out at S. F. No. 627/1 on the Thundukadu Rakkiapalayam Main Road. It’s near the Nallur Post area. It’s more of a factory setting than a store, so you’ll see a lot of machines and people working hard if you ever come by. The road outside can get pretty muddy when it rains, and sometimes it's hard for the scooters to get through without getting stuck. We have a big open floor where the stitching happens. It’s loud because of the sewing machines running all at once, and we usually have some local music playing on a small radio to keep everyone going through the afternoon. We don’t have fancy chairs or a waiting room. Most of the space is taken up by the big cutting tables and the bins of scrap cloth that we clear out once a week. We try to keep things moving as fast as we can because there’s always another order waiting to be started. The tea man comes around twice a day and that’s when everyone takes a break and sits outside for a bit to get some fresh air. We don’t have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just us and the machines in this big shed. We’ve been here for a few years and we know the rhythms of the road and the weather. It’s just a practical place for making clothes. (252 words)
