Shrishre Knits

Shrishre Knits is located over in Palanisamy Nagar. Poyampalayam is a busy area for this kind of work. We have a decent-sized space where we keep the knitting machines. It’s loud when they’re all running at once, so we have to shout a bit to be heard. We’ve got a routine down now. Some of us arrive early to get the yarn ready. It’s a lot of repetitive motion, watching the needles and making sure nothing snags. We aren't a big corporation with fancy titles. We’re just folks who know how to handle knitwear. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it's sunny outside. We keep our supplies stacked against the back wall. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside and wait for it to come back. That’s just life here. We don’t put on airs or try to act like we’re something we’re not. We just make the knits and send them out. Most of the people working here live nearby, so it’s a short walk home after work. We’ve had some of the same machines for a long time and we know their sounds. If something breaks, we fix it ourselves. It’s a practical way to run a business and it works for us. We just keep at it, day after day, making sure the fabric is exactly how it needs to be.
