Down on Ayyam Palayam Road, specifically at Therku Thottam Pazhavanji Palayam, you’ll find our little setup called Ask Garments. It’s a bit out of the main town, which is nice because it’s a little quieter, though the roads can be quite bumpy after the monsoon rains. We make clothes here. It’s mostly t-shirts and basic wear that we stitch together in our small unit. We have about a dozen machines running most of the day. The sound of the needles clicking is something you just get used to after a while. We aren't some massive garment factory with thousands of workers and big lunchrooms. It’s just a local crew from the nearby villages working together. We get the fabric in, cut it according to the patterns we have, and then the stitching starts. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we all have to take a break until the generator kicks in or the power comes back. We don't have a fancy showroom for people to browse. Most of our stuff goes straight into big plastic bags and then onto trucks for delivery. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we try to make sure the seams are straight and the extra threads are trimmed off properly. It’s honest work that fills the day. We don’t have a marketing team. We just focus on finishing the orders we have so we can move on to the next pile of fabric waiting for us.
