Gokilaa Garments

Gokilaa Garments is located at No. 643/2b in Kulathupalayam. We are right near the Veerapandi Telephone Extension on Palladam Road. It’s a bit of a quieter spot compared to the big city industrial areas, but we still keep very busy. The building is a simple structure that we’ve used for a long time. Inside, you’ll find a lot of sewing machines and heaps of fabric waiting to be cut. It’s a very hands-on place. We don’t have a big reception area or anything like that; you usually just walk right into the middle of the workspace. The people who work here are mostly locals from the nearby area, so everyone knows each other. We talk while we work, mostly about our families or what’s happening in the neighborhood. It’s a comfortable atmosphere, though it can get quite warm in the afternoons. We handle everything from the initial patterns to the final ironing ourselves. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of thread and someone has to run out and get more, which slows things down a bit. Our desks are cluttered with measuring tapes and chalk. We don't try to look like a big corporation because we aren't. We just enjoy making garments and seeing the finished product piled up at the end of the day. It’s honest work and we’ve been doing it this way for years without much change. There is always a lot to do, but we take it one step at a time.
