We’ve been here at No. 250 in Fivestar Nagar for quite a while now. It is a bit out of the way near the Muthanampalayam post office, but people usually find us eventually. The building isn't much to look at from the outside, just a regular place where we get the work done. Inside, it's mostly the sound of sewing machines humming all day. We spend a lot of time checking the stitching on the shirts and pants that come through here. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we just sit outside on the steps and wait for it to come back. It's not a fancy office or anything like that. We have a few long tables where we fold the clothes and get them ready to go out. The floor is usually covered in little bits of thread and fabric scraps by five o'clock. We try to sweep up every evening, but it’s a never-ending job. Most of the staff live nearby, so we all know each other’s families. We aren't trying to be the biggest company around. We just like to keep the machines running and make sure the boxes are packed right. Sometimes the traffic on the main road makes it hard for the delivery trucks to get in, but we manage. It’s just how things are here. We just show up, do the cutting and sewing, and head home when the sun goes down. It is a living.
