Vistara Garments

Our workshop is at No. 291/1 in I. G. Colony, over in Sundamedu. It’s part of the Iduvampalayam Post area, which is a bit out of the main city center. We’ve been here in Murugampalayam for quite some time now. The building is simple, just a place where we can set up our machines and get to work. Most of the people who work here live nearby in the colony, so it’s a very local feel. You can hear the sound of the sewing machines from the street when we are in the middle of a big order. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but we keep the fans going and just keep moving. We make all sorts of garments. There’s no big marketing team here. We just show our samples to people and if they like the quality, they give us an order. It’s honest work. We spend a lot of time checking the seams and making sure the fabric is cut right. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of thread and someone has to go out and find more. It’s just how it goes. The floors are usually covered in bits of lint and thread by the end of the shift. We clean it all up and start again the next morning. It’s a steady rhythm that we’ve gotten used to over the years. We don't need fancy offices to do what we do.
