We are located at No. 16/17 in V. O. C. Nagar, right off Ranganathpuram and Kongu Main Road. This part of town is basically nothing but textiles and sewing. We’ve got a bunch of machines running all day. It’s a bit hot inside because of the motors, but we keep the windows open. We make clothes, mostly basic stuff like shirts and bottoms. Nothing high-fashion, just things people actually wear. The cutting table takes up most of the space in the front room. We have about ten people working here regularly. Sometimes we bring in more if there’s a big order to finish by Friday. My uncle started the shop and I took over when he got too tired of the noise. We don’t have a big sign out front, just the number on the wall. People in Ranganathpuram know us anyway. We buy our thread from a guy down the street. It’s a small community of makers here. We try to be fair with our prices and do a good job so the buyers keep coming back. Sometimes we have problems with the electricity, so we have a small generator out back. It’s loud but it works. We don’t have a fancy office for meetings, we just talk over the sound of the sewing machines. That’s how we’ve always done it. The afternoon tea break is the only time the place goes quiet, and even then, someone is usually tinkering with a needle. It’s just how we live.
