This facility is over at 9/10 11 Kizhakkal Thottam in Sakthi Nagar, Karumarampalayam. It’s tucked away in an area that’s mostly full of other textile units, so you can hear the hum of the neighborhood before you even get to our gates. Inside, the space is wide and open, filled with rows of machines and long tables for inspecting the finished fabric. We spend a lot of our time just making sure everything is running like it should and that no machines are acting up. If something breaks down, it’s a whole process to get it fixed, so we try to keep a close eye on them. The floors are concrete and can get quite cold in the mornings, but by noon the whole place warms up from the machines running. We have big windows, but they mostly just show the other factory walls nearby. It’s a very practical environment for us. There aren't many places to sit down except for the wooden benches in the break area. We deal with a lot of yarn and finished goods, so there’s always something being loaded onto a truck out back for shipping. It’s a hard-working atmosphere, and we don't spend money on making things look pretty. It’s all about the daily output. Most of us live nearby, so we see each other at the local shops after our shift too. It’s just a regular part of our life here in Mannarai and we just keep at it day after day.
