M&m Fashions

We’re set up in the Shri Gokulam building over in Alandur, near the Veerapandi pirivu. It’s a decent spot, though the traffic at the junction can be a real headache some mornings. Our space is filled with all kinds of clothes we’ve put together. We call it M&m Fashions, but it’s really just a few of us working away with fabrics and sewing kits. The room is often a bit of a mess with loose threads and fabric cuttings everywhere. We try to keep it tidy, but when we’re busy, that’s the first thing to go. We don't have a big marketing team or anything; we just show people what we've made when they come by the building. Sometimes the ceiling fan rattles a bit, but it keeps the air moving while we work. We’ve got a few mirrors leaning against the walls for people to see how things look. Most of what we do is just practical clothing that folks in the area can wear every day. We don't follow all the latest trends from the big cities, we just make what seems to work for the people here. It’s a lot of sitting at the machines and checking the seams. We’ve been in this building for a while now and the neighbors are all pretty friendly. It's a simple way to make a living. We keep a small kettle in the corner for tea during the afternoon slump, which helps us get through the last few hours of work.
