Lakshmi Balaji Cotton Mills

We are located over at No. 22/3 in the Weavers Colony part of K.A.K Nagar. It makes sense for a cotton mill to be in a place named after weavers, I suppose. The air here usually has those tiny bits of white fluff floating around, which is just part of working with cotton all day. It’s a noisy place when the machines are running, so we usually have to shout a bit to be heard over the hum. My family has been involved with textiles for a long time, and this mill is where we spend almost all our waking hours. It’s not a shiny new factory, just a solid building that has seen a lot of work over the years. We start early before the sun gets too hot, though it still gets pretty warm inside once everything is powered up. We handle the raw stuff and turn it into what’s needed, focusing on the basic steps of the process. Most of the folks working here live nearby in the colony, so it feels like a neighborhood effort. We don't have a big marketing department or a fancy lobby. There is just the main floor and a small area where we keep the finished bales. Sometimes the power goes out and we all just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. It’s a simple life, focused on the rhythm of the machines and getting the cotton out on time. We just do what we know and try to stay productive through the summer heat.
