Sri Sarwada Knit Wear

Our place, Sri Sarwada Knit Wear, is right on Kongu Main Road, near the Kovil Street intersection. If you’ve been around this part of town, you know it’s a hub for all things related to knitting and textiles. The sound of the machines is something you just get used to after a few days. It’s a steady beat that goes on from morning until we shut down for the night. We have a few different types of machines squeezed into the space. It’s a bit tight, especially when we have a lot of yarn rolls sitting around. We spend our time checking the tension on the threads and making sure the patterns are coming out okay. It’s not the cleanest work, as there’s always a bit of lint in the air, but it’s what we do. The shop is basically one big room with a small area for us to sit and have our lunch. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. If someone comes by, they just walk up to the main door and shout for one of us. Kongu Main Road is usually jammed with vehicles, so we hear a lot of horns. We just keep our heads down and watch the needles move. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but there is a certain satisfaction when a whole batch is finished and packed. It’s just us doing our bit in the local textile scene.
