String Apparel

String Apparel is situated at number 21 on Mullai Nagar 2nd Street in Karumarampalayam. It is a quiet residential street for the most part, which we like because it isn't as hectic as the main roads. We operate out of a small space that used to be part of a house, so it has a bit of a homey feel to it, for better or worse. There are thread offcuts on the rug and piles of fabric waiting to be cut on the main table. We do a lot of the work ourselves, from picking the materials to doing the final stitching. Our machines are loud and they vibrate the floor a bit when we are really going fast. 21 Mullai Nagar is easy enough to find once you are on the second street, but visitors sometimes take a wrong turn at the corner. We don't have any big flashy lights or window displays. We just have our work out where people can see it. Karumarampalayam is a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business, so news travels fast if we have something new in. We spend our breaks sitting on the porch or talking to neighbors who walk by with their groceries. It’s not a corporate office and we don't wear suits. We just wear what’s comfortable and get the orders finished as they come in. It’s a steady life and we are happy to be a part of this little community.
