We’re out in Kaniyampoondi, at No. 118/2 and 3/119. It’s a bit out of the way, which we actually like. It’s quieter than being in the middle of a big city, and we have more room to move around. The building is a simple structure that we’ve adapted over time to fit our needs. We have the cutting tables in one section and the sewing machines in another. Most of the people who work here live nearby, so it feels like a local operation. We don’t have a website or a marketing team; we just rely on the quality of the work we send out. The morning starts early here, usually before the sun gets too hot. We check the fabric rolls and start the day’s production. There’s a lot of manual work involved, lifting boxes and moving racks. We keep things pretty informal. If something breaks, we usually fix it ourselves. The yard outside is mostly dirt and gravel, and we have a few trees that give some shade for the bikes. It’s a practical place for practical work. We’ve spent a lot of years in Kaniyampoondi building this up. We don’t care about being the biggest, just about finishing the day knowing we did what we were supposed to do. It’s a humble setup, but it works for us and the families that depend on the jobs here.
