We operate out of Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, which most people know is the center for everything related to knitting and cotton. Our setup is pretty straightforward. We have the knitting machines and the yarn, and that’s mostly what fills up our space. The heat in Tiruppur can be something else, especially when the machines have been running all day, but we are used to it by now. We spend our time watching the needles move and making sure the fabric comes out without any holes or snags. It’s a lot of standing and a lot of checking the tension on the threads. Sometimes the colors aren't exactly right and we have to start over, which is frustrating, but it is part of the trade. We aren't a big corporate office; we are just a group of people who know how to work with knits. You can hear the rhythmic clicking of the machines from the street. We get through a lot of tea during the day to keep going. Most of our work is just staying on top of the orders and making sure the quality is decent enough for the people who buy from us. It is a busy town and there is always something moving, whether it is a truck full of cotton or rolls of finished cloth heading out.
