Guru Garment

Guru Garment is over at No. 224/e-92 Jai Nagar 4th Street. This is just off Maniyakarampalayam Road. It’s a bit of a quiet street compared to the main road, which we actually like. Our building is a simple two-story place. We have the sewing machines set up on the ground floor and the fabric storage is tucked away in the back. Most days, you can hear the rhythmic sound of the needles hitting the cloth from the sidewalk. We have a small group of workers who have been with us for a while. We don't have any big missions or slogans. We just focus on getting the garments finished on time. The lighting is mostly fluorescent, which isn't great but it works for seeing the stitches. Sometimes we run out of thread or a machine breaks down, and then it’s a bit of a scramble to get things fixed. The neighborhood around Jai Nagar is mostly families, so it feels safe and steady. We keep our door open during the day to let the breeze in, though it doesn't always help when it’s really hot out. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s a basic business, and we are fine with that. No. 224/e-92 is where you will find us most days of the week. We’ve been here since the neighborhood was a lot smaller than it is now. We’ve seen changes but our shop stays the same.
