United Clothing International

You can find United Clothing International on Sakthi Theatre Main Road, right near the Perumanallur Road junction. It’s a busy part of town, so there is always some noise from the traffic and the people going to the cinema. We’ve been at No 73/34 for a while now. Our building is pretty plain, just a functional space where we handle different types of clothing orders. We aren't some big international corporation with thousands of employees, despite the name. We are just a local team doing our daily shifts. The floor is usually covered in small bits of thread and fabric scraps by the time evening rolls around. We make sure to sweep up, but by the next morning, it’s back to the same. We have rows of machines and everyone has their own spot. Some of us have been sewing since we were teenagers. We don't have a lot of meetings or long talks about strategy; we just look at the samples and start working. The main road outside is always dusty, so we try to keep the windows shut to protect the white fabrics. It gets a bit stuffy inside, but we have some decent fans. Most of our day is spent making sure the seams are strong. It's not a glamorous life, but we like the work and the people we work with.
