Avni Garment

Avni Garment is situated at No. 59 B-1, though the old number is 19-b, which sometimes makes the mailman a bit confused. We are in the State Bank Colony area of Gandhi Nagar. It’s a decent neighborhood, mostly quiet except for the usual street traffic. Our workspace is filled with sewing machines and stacks of cut fabric waiting to be put together. We spend most of our hours here, from early morning until the sun goes down. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do. The floor is usually covered in little bits of thread and scraps by lunch time, so we do a big sweep then. There’s a small tea stall just down the road where we go to take a break when the humming of the machines gets to be too much. We’ve been in Gandhi Nagar for a good while now and have seen shops around us change owners, but we’re still here at the same spot. The building itself is nothing special, just a practical space for making clothes. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here in the colony. It’s a lot of repetitive work, stitching the same seams over and over, but there’s a certain rhythm to it that feels right. We just focus on getting the piles of garments done so we can head home to our families and rest up.
