Uthralakshmi Garments

Uthralakshmi Garments is based at 51 (2) Gandhi Road in Anupar Palayam. This part of town is pretty well known for this kind of work. Our place is right on the main road, so we get all the dust and the noise from the passing trucks. It’s a practical setup. We have the sewing machines lined up and the cutting tables in the middle. Most of the day is spent listening to the sound of the needles and the fabric being cut. It’s repetitive work, but we are used to it by now. Gandhi Road is always busy, so there is never a dull moment if you look out the front. We have piles of garments in different stages of being finished. Some are just pieces of cloth, and others are almost ready to be packed. Anupar Palayam has a lot of people doing similar things, so we fit right in. We don't have a big marketing department or anything. It's just us at the shop, making sure the garments are made properly and the counts are right. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to wait it out, maybe have a tea. It's an honest living. We keep the doors open to let some air in because it gets warm with all the machines running. We’ve been at this address for a while and the routine doesn’t change much from Monday to Saturday.
