Akshara Garment

You can find us at No. 9/218 on Radharkrishna Street, which is just off Rakkiyapalayam Road in the Ammapalayam area. It is a typical street for this part of the world, with houses and small businesses all mixed together. At Akshara Garment, we don't have a fancy entrance or a big lobby. You just walk in and you’re right in the middle of where the work happens. The sound of the machines is pretty constant from morning until evening. We handle a lot of the local garment work, and the tables are always piled high with fabric that needs to be stitched or checked for errors. The light comes in through the front door, and we have a few tube lights to help out when it gets dark. It’s a very practical space. We don’t spend money on decorations because we’d rather have better equipment or more room for stock. Ammapalayam is a busy hub for clothes, so we are surrounded by people who do the same thing as us. We often talk to the neighbors about the price of yarn or how the transport is running that day. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living. We just focus on the piles of clothes in front of us and try to get through the daily list. Some days we stay late to finish a big batch, and other days are a bit more relaxed.
