Aalwar Textiles

Aalwar Textiles is tucked away a bit at No. 295 Oorvali Thottam. We are right behind the Ramakrishna School in the Ammapalayam area. It’s a bit quieter than the main roads, which we actually prefer for our daily work. You can often hear the kids at the school playing during their break times, which makes the day feel a bit more lively. Our work involves a lot of handling different types of fabrics and materials. We spend hours checking the piles of cloth to make sure everything is okay. The space is often filled with the smell of new textiles and dust. It’s a very practical environment, not a showroom. We don't have fancy air conditioning, just a couple of old ceiling fans that hum all day long to keep the air moving. My family and I handle most of the daily tasks ourselves. We move the stock around and keep everything as neat as we can given how much we have. It’s a lot of physical effort, especially when a new shipment arrives and we have to carry everything inside from the truck. The street outside is narrow, so we have to be quick with the unloading so we don't block the way. We know most of the families around here because they live in the houses nearby. It feels like a very local, grounded place to work. We aren't trying to be anything fancy. We just provide textiles to the people.
