Abinayasri Knits

At Abinayasri Knits, we are located at Sf No. 256 in Saraswathi Garden, which is just off the Kangayam Cross Road. This area is full of textile units, so you can hear the hum of industry everywhere you go. We focus on knitting, so we have these circular machines that run for hours at a time. It’s a very repetitive job, but you have to keep a close eye on the needles so they don’t break and ruin the whole roll of fabric. The lighting in the unit isn't the best, so we use a lot of local spot lamps to see what we are doing. We have a few people who are experts at fixing the machines when they get jammed. It’s a hot and dusty environment, but we’re used to it. We don't have a big office or a place for visitors to sit; it's mostly just the production floor. We eat our lunch together in the small shade outside when the weather allows. The Kangayam Cross Road is always busy with lorries, so there’s a constant background noise of traffic. We don't do anything very complicated, just honest knitting work day in and day out. Sometimes the yarn we get isn't the best quality, and that makes the day a lot harder, but we manage somehow. It’s just the way we make our living. We finish the work, lock the gate, and head home.
