We do our work at 16a 5th Street in the Swarnapuri Enclave area of 15 Velampalayam. It’s a residential-feeling neighborhood, but there are a few workshops like ours tucked away here. Gugan Knits is basically a place where we turn yarn into finished pieces. The knitting machines have a specific rhythm to them that you start to hum along with after a few hours. We have rows of yarn cones in different colors lined up against the walls. It’s mostly just us focus on the tension of the needles and making sure there aren't any dropped stitches in the fabric. The floor gets covered in fluff really fast, so we have to sweep it out at least twice a day. We have a small area in the front where we pack everything into bags and boxes. It’s not a huge factory, just a local setup where we know all the people who work here by name. We usually walk to the corner shop for tea in the morning. The business isn't about being flashy; it’s just about making decent quality knits that people can actually use. Sometimes a machine jams and we have to spend an hour poking at it with a screwdriver. That’s just part of the job. We keep going until the work is done.
