Rajarajan Candles

Our place, Rajarajan Candles, is located at No. 9 on 6th Cross Street. Our workshop is in Ranganathapuram, which is over in the Tambaram area. Making candles is what we do all day long. It is a quiet kind of work compared to the heavy industry you see in other parts of the city. The smell of wax is always present in our building. 6th Cross Street is a regular neighborhood street, so we try not to be too loud or disruptive. We have been here for several years now, and the locals know us by the stacks of boxes we often have ready for transport. The space is filled with molds and different batches of wax waiting to be melted. It’s not a high-tech operation. We do a lot of things by hand, making sure each candle is set properly. Tambaram can get quite busy, but Ranganathapuram feels a bit more tucked away. We spend a lot of time checking the wicks and ensuring the temperature is right in the room. When the rains come, it gets a bit damp, but we keep the supplies off the floor. It is a small business run by people who live nearby. We don't have a website or a fancy logo on the door. It is just the name of the business and the address where we show up every morning to get to work. We like the simple nature of the craft and how it keeps us busy through the week.
