My family has been around the leather trade here on Ambur Road for a long time. Pernambat is known for this kind of work, and Bakkalapalli is where we set up our shed. We handle the skins and do the processing that needs doing. It is not clean or easy work, to be honest. Most days we are just busy with the tanning and making sure everything looks right before it goes out. Sometimes the weather makes it hard to dry things properly, but we manage. I spend a lot of time on the floor checking the batches. It is just me and a few local guys who know the trade. We do not have a big office or anything fancy, just the workspace and the machines. People know where to find us if they need leather. We started small and stayed that way because it is what we know. My boots are usually covered in dust from the yard. We get the raw material in and try to get it out as finished pieces without too much fuss. It is noisy and smells like salt and chemicals sometimes, but that is how it goes. If you are ever driving down toward Bakkalapalli, you will see our gate. We do not do much advertising, mostly just word of mouth from people who have bought from us before. It keeps us busy enough through the week and pays the bills.
