Udaykumar Stores

We occupy two units, 13-26 and 13-27, on Old Market Street. It’s an old part of Thenabanda, so the streets are a bit narrow. Udaykumar Stores has been here since my father's time. We sell mostly dry goods and stuff for the kitchen. Because we have two units, we use one mostly for storage and the other for the customers. It gets very crowded on market days. You can barely move on the street outside. We have to be quick with the weighing scales. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven't found the time yet. We are too busy moving sacks of rice. We don't use any fancy software for the sales. Just a pen and a notepad. It works for us. My kids sometimes help out after school if we have a big shipment. It's a family thing. We've known the other shopkeepers on this street for decades. We look out for each other. Sometimes we run out of change and have to go next door to ask. It's that kind of place. We don't have a website or anything like that. If you want to buy from us, you just come down to Thenabanda. We'll be here from morning till evening, just like always. It’s a lot of work, but this street has a lot of history and we are glad to be part of it. Even when it’s hot, we just keep the doors wide open.
