People around here in Veeravanallur know us mostly because we’ve been at 100 Church Street in Bharathi Nagar for a while now. It’s just a small place, really. We spend most of our mornings opening up the shutters and getting the ledger books ready for when people stop by after their chores. Cheranmahadevi is a busy enough area, so there is always someone passing by the door. Our desks are usually covered in some paperwork or another because that is just how things go with chit funds. We don't have a big fancy lobby with air conditioning or anything like that. It’s just some chairs and a fan that squeaks a little bit when it’s on the high setting. Most of the folks who come in are neighbors we’ve known for years. We talk about the weather or how the crops are doing while they sort out their monthly bits. Sometimes the rain gets quite heavy on Church Street and we have to move the chairs back from the entrance. It gets a bit noisy with the traffic outside, but we like being right in the middle of things where everyone can find us easily. There isn't much to say about our history except that we're here every day, except Sundays and holidays, sitting behind the counter. If you walk past Bharathi Nagar, you’ll likely see one of us standing out front for a quick break or talking to the person from the shop next door.
